Call to Worship    (Responsive)                                                                                                                  Bill Monroe

And when the day of Pentecost had come,

they were all together in one place.

Suddenly from heaven came a sound like the rush of a mighty wind

and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.

Tongues, as of fire, appeared among them and rested on each of them.

And they were filled with the Holy Spirit.

Call to Prayer

Prayer of Confession    (In unison)

O God,

You are Spirit;

You are wind;

You are breath.

You meet us in the wonders of creation,

in the awe of wonderful things,

in the terror of fearful things.

You blow among the fallen leaves,

the broken branches,

the whining pain

and the whirlwinds of delight.

Your wind gently touches our brow

with comfort and caress;

your forgiveness raises us to life;

your challenge disturbs our tidy plans

and spreads opportunities before our eyes.

Gentle Spirit, breathe on us your life.

Strong Spirit, open our closed doors to your compassion;

Universal Spirit, inspire us to sing and sigh for justice;

Spirit of Jesus, teach us to walk, to work, to pray, to live, to love

 your way.

Awaken our dreams, expand our visions, heal us for hope,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen[1]

 Offertory Anthem    I Am Thine, O Lord            A. L. Butler arr. Mark Patterson, 2001

                                        Chorus of Men and Boys

                           I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, And it told Thy love to me;

                                                            But I long to rise in the arms of faith, And be closer drawn to Thee.

                                                            Draw me nearer, draw me nearer, draw me nearer, Lord, to Thee;

                                                            I am Thine, O Lord, I am Thine, O Lord, draw me nearer, Lord, to Thee.

                                                            Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord, By the power of grace divine.

                                                            Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, And my will be lost in Thine.

                                                            Draw me nearer, draw me nearer, draw me nearer, Lord, to Thee;

                                                            I am Thine, O Lord, I am Thine, O Lord, draw me nearer, Lord, to Thee.

Invitation and Thanksgiving                                 The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Pour out Pentecost's Spirit upon these gifts of bread and cup,

and on your daughters and sons who hunger for your goodness.

As we eat the Bread, may grace satisfy our hearts and fill a broken world.

As we drink the Cup, may our lives be filled with love and then poured out for a parched people.

And when that great day comes when you gather your children in one place, around one great Table, we will fully receive the Spirit, being fed by your Servant, Jesus,

and sing to you with one voice, one heart, as one community. Amen.
